Teacher Training Workshops

Teacher training workshops can be organised throughout the year on a range of topics.

Depending on the region workshops can include topics such as:

Please contact your Regional Coordinator to discuss your requirements.

Training in Water Quality Monitoring

Physical/Chemical Training

We will train you in the use of water quality equipment so you become familiar with the different physical and chemical tests that Waterwatch conducts. The tests are an excellent way to introduce students to the importance of water quality and link directly to subjects such as science, maths and society and environment. Information on developing water monitoring plans can also be provided.

Biological Training

We will teach you to sample and identify creatures such as aquatic invertebrates, frogs and fish, and provide you with information so you can teach about their lifecycle, habitat and features. You will be able to show your students how macro-invertebrates and frogs are excellent bio-indicators and about the issues threatening our native fish species.

An introduction to Waterwatch

Learn about the Waterwatch Program. Find out what it is and how you can get your students involved in a fun environmental program that links to the school curriculum.

Catchment Education in the Classroom

Explore ways in which you can educate your students about catchment issues. Includes information about what a catchment is, why it is important, and how land use and human activity affects catchments.

Links to the SACSA Framework

Find out how the learning opporuntities that are offered through the Waterwatch program can link to the South Australian Curriculum Standards and Accountability (SACSA) Framework. See the direct correlation between Waterwatch activities and the essential learnings and key competencies.

Themes and Learning Ideas

Explore the vast choice of themes and learning ideas for water education in the class or in the field. See how units of work and resources can be pulled together to educate students about water quality, water conservation and catchment issues.

Partnerships

Learn about the different ways the Waterwatch program can facilitate partnerships between schools and the community. Partnerships can be explored with business, community groups and other environmental programs such as Landcare, 'Our Patch' etc.

Whole of school approach to water/catchment education

Learn about the benefits of adopting a 'whole school' approach to water education. We will show you how to adopt this approach and how it facilitates on-going learning.
