Eight
schools in the Adelaide Hills area took part in the first series of
Schools
Sustainability Forums this year. Forums
were held at Aldgate and Uraidla
Primary Schools,
and the other schools involved were
Basket Range Primary, Bridgewater Primary, Hills Montessori
School
(photo on left), Littlehampton
Primary, Norton Summit Primary and Scott Creek Primary.
The series wrapped up on the 16th of November
at the Hills Garden & Environment Expo. Students
have been working on sustainability
projects all year and were
keen to show what they've done to the wider community.
Examples of projects include building
butterfly gardens, chicken sheds, native and veggie gardens, guiding
community
members on tours of the sustainability aspects of the school and
revitalisation
of recycling programs. Mike and Claire
Bossley, local Hills environmentalists, sponsored a prize for the best
presentation given by a primary schools, and 5 of the 8 schools entered. The prize, a digital camera and a trophy, was
won by Norton
Summit Primary School (photo on right). All the efforts of the teachers, parents and
students at all the schools involved, however, is greatly appreciated
and
acknowledged. We look forward to
starting up more Schools Sustainability Forums in 2009.
