About us

What is Waterwatch?

Waterwatch is a water quality monitoring and catchment education program that provides you with an opportunity to make a difference to your local creek, river, dam or wetland. Get outdoors and actively involved in monitoring and protecting these remarkable environments.

In South Australia Waterwatch is a network with trained coordinators helping people to care for the quality of water in their local waterways for current and future generations.

A waterway is defined as a creek, dam, lake, groundwater supply, wetland, river, estuary or mangrove.

Who can be involved?

People of all ages and from all walks of life are involved in Waterwatch, including:

Waterwatch always welcomes new volunteers. You don't have to get wet but it's more fun if you do!

Why Waterwatch?

Water is our most precious resource and all life depends on it.

The sustainability and health of our waterways is vital to our community. When our waterways become degraded or polluted we all suffer.

Our streams, lakes and wetlands are important because they provide:

  • homes for wildlife
  • water supplies for households, industry and farms
  • places for us to enjoy recreational activities.

Waterwatch plays a major role in monitoring the health of our waterways. Monitoring enables the early detection of water quality problems and the identification of actions to address them.
