Upper Murray Youth Council Celebrates

Upper Murray Youth Council students

Minister for the River Murray, Hon. Karlene Maywald will be joining the Upper Murray Youth Council on a field trip to celebrate their environmental achievements throughout 2008.

Throughout 2008 students from Renmark, Loxton, Waikerie and Glossop High schools have been meeting once per month to discuss and learn about environmental issues affecting their schools and communities. They have attended several environmental conferences and workshops including the MyRiver Murray Program in Renmark, and the Youth Environment Conference in Adelaide.

In November students will make the trip to Calperum Station where they will learn about new educational programs run at the station. They will be joined for lunch and discussions by the Hon. Karlene Maywald.

Students will brief Minister Maywald on the activities they have taken part in during the year.  Minister Maywald will present each student with a certificate for their involvement with the group in 2008.

A highlight of the day will be a canoe tour of Ral Ral Creek which will be a great way for the students to have fun and also learn about the flora and fauna in that area.
