Stormwater Solutions is an activity
that provides students with an opportunity to take action! Schools
from around the Onkaparinga catchment will be helping to prevent
leaves, soil and rubbish from going down the drain and polluting
our waterways.
There are two ways to get involved
in the program:
1. An Onkaparinga Waterwatch
Education Officer can visit your school to deliver a Stormwater
Solutions session. Following the session your class will
have an opportunity to complete a Gutter Sweep.
2. A Stormwater Solutions
pack can be sent to you. The pack contains background information
on stormwater, lesson ideas, activities, and how to participate
in the gutter sweeping activity.
To obtain a Stormwater Solutions
pack please contact Onkaparinga Waterwatch (details below) or
download the registration form
(146KB PDF).

KESAB Patawalonga and Torrens
Waterwatch (KPTW) will once again be running the Gutter Guardians
program during the month of May, 2005. Last year was a great success,
with 57 school and community groups sweeping a section of their
local streets, calculating the potential amount of stormwater
pollution collected and surveying local residents.
More than 1599 shopping bags full
of litter weighing in at 3430.15kg were removed from roadside
gutters & verges and prevented from entering our stormwater
systems. That's enough to fill 175 wheelie bins!
Gutter Guardians is a dynamic,
action-based program that supports stormwater pollution education.
The Gutter Guardians Pack (available online or posted via request),
provides ideas for other learning activities including; exploration
of stormwater pollution impacts on our waterways, community surveys,
composting and visits from council Street Sweeper machinery.
