General
Information
The
Waterwatch SA Awards were a great opportunity for Waterwatch SA
to acknowledge and congratulate groups and individuals who have
been involved in Waterwatch during 2003.
2003 is of particular importance
to Waterwatch SA as it heralds the 10 year anniversary of Waterwatch
in South Australia.
The Waterwatch awards have been
running since 2000 and every year the judging becomes more difficult.
In the past the schools and community groups who are recognised
are not necessarily the biggest or the best resourced, but those
who made the best effort and made the most difference with what
they had to work with.
In 2003 the competition was divided
into a regional band and a Mt Lofty Ranges & Greater Adelaide
band. This allowed for a more equitable competition and highlighted
the regional and metropolitan winners of each category.
32
nominations were received this year and the competition was very
tough.
The winners of each category received
an award, a copy of The Waterbug Book, and a signed copy
of the Colour Guide to Invertebrates of Australian Inland Waters.
All nominees received a "Certificate
of Merit" to acknowledge their efforts and the top finalists
of each category also received a 'Certificate of Commendation"
to highlight the outstanding work they had done throughout the year.
In addition, the Overall Winner
was announced and this group received an award and a cheque from
the Environment Protection Authority to acknowledge their fantastic
efforts in 2003.

The Award Ceremony
The
award ceremony was held on Friday 14 November in the Lyrics Room
at the Festival Theatre. At the start of the day, students and teachers
were entertained with a lunch and theatre show showcasing the importance
of water in South Australia.
Approximately 250 guests attended
the awards which clearly demonstrates the level of support and enthusiasm
the community has for Waterwatch.
The ceremony acknowledged the nominees
and winners of this years awards and included a video showcasing
"A Decade of Waterwatch".
Waterwatch SA would like to thank
all the people that attended the awards and congratulate all nominees
and winners. Keep up the fantastic work.
